NOVAKHOV CONDEMNS DEMOCRATS FOR VOTING DOWN LEGISLATION TO ALLOW COOPERATION WITH FEDERAL GOVERNMENT
NEW YORK : Assemblyman Michael Novakhov (R,C-Brooklyn) is reacting with disappointment after Democrats on the Governmental Operations Committee voted down a proposal to prohibit the state from preventing cooperation with the federal government on matters of immigration control. Novakhov, who voted for the proposal, says sanctuary-state status has been a disaster for the state and must be revoked.
“Since sanctuary-state status has been in effect, our law enforcement officials have been severely handicapped from being able to take dangerous individuals off the street. It is clear to me that Democrats’ hatred of the Trump administration and their refusal to work with him take priority over public safety. Law enforcement should be able to actually enforce laws, not be handcuffed by politicians,” said Novakhov.
Novakhov is also reiterating that, as an immigrant himself, he is not against immigration but says people must do it legally and wait their turn.
“Growing up in the former Soviet Union, I understand that the U.S. is a beacon of freedom for people around the globe, but we must be able to control our borders. We, as a country, have the right to vet people entering the country and to know who is entering. To allow rampant illegal immigration is a slap in the face to me and everyone else who waited their turn and came here legally,” concluded Novakhov.
