Senator Jessica Ramos Announced Expanded Community-Based Care Services for Queens Families

Corona Social Center Received New York State Designation Under TBI and NHTD Waiver Programs, Expanding Support for Individuals with Disabilities, Older Adults, and Caregivers

New York : ( By Manzoor Hussain) . New York State Senator Jessica Ramos joined officials from Corona Social Center on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, to announce the organization’s designation as an approved Social Day Program provider under New York State’s Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) and Nursing Home Transition and Diversion (NHTD) Waiver Programs.

The announcement marked a significant expansion of community-based care resources available to Queens residents, particularly individuals living with disabilities, older adults, family caregivers, and those transitioning from Managed Long-Term Care plans.

The new designation was expected to increase access to essential support services while allowing participants to remain connected to their families, neighborhoods, and communities. Officials said the program would help ensure continuity of care, reduce service disruptions, and provide more opportunities for individuals to live independently while receiving the assistance they needed close to home.

Speaking at the event, Senator Jessica Ramos emphasized the importance of accessible and dignified care for all New Yorkers.

“Strong communities take care of one another. Every New Yorker deserves the opportunity to receive care with dignity while remaining connected to the people and places they love,” Ramos said. She added that the expansion of services would help more Queens families access support locally while giving residents greater opportunities to age in place, maintain independence, and remain rooted in their communities.

Representatives of Corona Social Center highlighted the growing need for community-based care options as New York State continued working to expand alternatives to institutional settings for older adults, people living with disabilities, and family caregivers.

A representative of Corona Social Center said that when care needs changed, individuals and families should not be left to navigate uncertainty alone. The representative noted that becoming a TBI and NHTD Waiver Social Day Program provider would allow the organization to broaden access to community-based care and ensure that more people could receive the support they needed while staying connected to their families and communities.

The press conference was attended by Weiyan Liu, President of Corona Social Center; Joyce Liu, Vice President; Lily Liu, Secretary and Treasurer; and Mark Fogel, Administrator of Contracts.

The event took place at Corona Social Center, located at 35-30 Junction Boulevard in Corona, Queens, and underscored the growing importance of community-based care initiatives aimed at improving quality of life for vulnerable populations throughout New York City.
