PMD forecasts rainy Eid ul-Fitr as western weather system approaches Pakistan
The Pakistan Meteorological Department has predicted unsettled weather conditions around Eid al-Fitr, with cloudy skies and widespread rainfall expected in different parts of the country.
According to the forecast, a fresh western weather system is likely to enter Pakistan by the evening or night of March 17. This system may trigger rain and thunderstorms across many regions between March 18 and March 20.
Several districts in Balochistan are expected to receive rain during this period, with the possibility of isolated hailstorms. In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, rainfall is anticipated in upper areas, while higher mountainous regions may experience snowfall.Intermittent rain is also forecast in Punjab and the federal capital, Islamabad, from the night of March 17 through March 20. Strong winds and potential hailstorms could affect areas such as Murree, Galiyat, Rawalpindi, and Islamabad.
The Met Office added that parts of Sindh may see rain and thunderstorms on March 18 and 19. Meanwhile, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir are likely to receive rainfall, with snowfall expected in the mountainous areas.
Authorities have cautioned that landslides could occur in upper regions due to the weather system and advised tourists to limit unnecessary travel. Strong winds and hailstorms may also damage standing crops, while daytime temperatures are expected to fall during the rainy spell.
