MAA Foundation USA Applauds NYC Rent Freeze, Calls It a Major Step Toward Housing Equity
Organization Says Decision Will Provide Financial Relief to Nearly One Million Rent-Stabilized Households and Strengthen Community Well-Being
NEW YORK: MAA Foundation USA has welcomed the New York City Rent Guidelines Board’s decision to freeze rents for approximately one million rent-stabilized apartments, describing the move as a significant milestone in advancing housing affordability, public health, and social equity across the city.
In an official statement released this week, the nonprofit organization praised the Rent Guidelines Board for adopting a policy that it believes will provide meaningful financial relief to working families, senior citizens, low-income households, people living with disabilities, and other vulnerable residents who continue to face rising living costs.
The foundation emphasized that stable and affordable housing is one of the most important factors influencing physical health, mental well-being, and overall quality of life. According to the statement, ensuring housing security allows families to maintain stability, reduces financial stress, and contributes to stronger, healthier communities.
“Affordable housing is essential to the dignity and well-being of individuals and families,” the organization stated, noting that the rent freeze represents an important investment in the long-term welfare of New Yorkers.
MAA Foundation USA further expressed hope that the decision would encourage constructive dialogue among tenants, property owners, housing advocates, and policymakers to develop sustainable solutions that balance the needs of all stakeholders while preserving affordable housing throughout New York City.
The organization also stressed that housing policy should remain focused on creating safe, sustainable, and equitable communities where every resident has access to secure and affordable homes.
In addition to welcoming the rent freeze, MAA Foundation USA extended its congratulations to Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani on his historic electoral victory. The foundation expressed optimism that the incoming administration would continue prioritizing policies that strengthen communities, expand access to affordable housing, and promote social justice for all New Yorkers.
The statement reaffirmed the organization’s ongoing commitment to advancing initiatives centered on health equity, community welfare, advocacy, and social justice. MAA Foundation USA said it will continue working alongside community leaders, public officials, and nonprofit partners to support programs that improve the lives of underserved populations throughout New York and beyond.
Founded to promote health awareness, advocacy, and community empowerment, MAA Foundation USA continues to champion policies that improve the quality of life for residents while encouraging collaboration between civic leaders and community organizations.
The foundation concluded its statement by reiterating its vision of building stronger communities through compassion, partnership, and equitable public policy, emphasizing that affordable housing remains a cornerstone of a healthier and more prosperous New York City.
