Academic and Community Initiatives
The convention was accompanied by several initiatives aimed at engaging the wider NED community beyond the social and networking activities.

One of the notable academic initiatives was the First Annual Mubashir Aslam Quidwai Memorial Essay Competition, which was announced by the NED International Alumni Network of North America in honor of Mubashir Aslam Quidwai, who served as President of the NED Students Union from 1974 to 1975.

The competition was co-hosted by NEDIAN-NA and NEDA-NE and focused on encouraging currently enrolled NED University students to address contemporary challenges involving technology, artificial intelligence, engineering and Pakistan’s development.

Students were invited to submit essays on either “AI Driven Innovation: Opportunities and Challenges for Developing Countries” or “The Role of Engineering Technologies in Solving Pakistan’s Challenges.”

The competition offered a first prize of Rs. 100,000 and a second prize of Rs. 50,000. Participants were required to submit original and unpublished essays of no more than 1,000 words, excluding references, while properly citing sources and avoiding plagiarism. Each participant was permitted to submit only one essay.

The organizers stated that the Publication Committee had the final authority to decide the winner, while winning essays were to be featured in the NED Convention Souvenir. The submission deadline had been set for August 31, 2026, with entries accepted through the designated competition email.
