Dear Excellency,
I’m writing to appeal Turkey’s diplomatic support in ending the sufferings of the Kashmiri people and the occupation of Jammu Kashmir. As a democratic republic, Turkey and especially President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan are a beacon of hope for nations under foreign occupation.
Jammu Kashmir has been divided and occupied by India, Pakistan and China since 1947-48, with families separated and unable to reunite. Despite UN resolutions promising a referendum, occupation forces have blocked implementation.
We Kashmiris admire President Erdoğan’s advocacy for deprived nations, including Gaza. However, we were disappointed that his recent speech at UN didn’t address our plight.
Since 1947-48, hundreds of thousands of Kashmiris have lost their lives seeking freedom. The region’s diverse demography has been disrupted with violence, displacements and large scale infrastructure destruction. Violence includes extra judicial killings, thousands of cases of disappearances, rape being used as a weapon of war, harassment of people, use of pellets and bullets on peaceful demonstrators, sentencing pro-freedom people for death and life imprisonment, attaching properties and arrest of thousand of people including Muhammad Yasin Malik like top pro-freedom leaders in politically motivated cases filed against them on the directions of Mr. Modi led extremist government of India.
Key developments include:
• India’s unilateral abolition of Articles 370 and 35A followed by the announcement of annexing and bifurcating Jammu Kashmir as Indian Union territories.
• Pakistan plans to annex Gilgit-Baltistan and abolish Azad Jammu Kashmir’s (AJK – the part of Jammu Kashmir in their control) status.
These actions violate Kashmiri rights and undermine international efforts.
I request an appointment to discuss this further and seek your help in saving our motherland. We stand for Jammu Kashmir’s reunification followed by resumption of its independence and sovereignty.
I thank you.
Sincerely,
Mohammad Haleem Khan
