BROOKLYN, NY: New York State Assemblymember Michael Novakhov sponsored the annual Jimmy’s Sandwich Eating Contest, one of the most anticipated attractions of Sheepshead Bay Fest, held on June 21, 2026, in Brooklyn.

The contest, organized by the well-known local establishment Jimmy’s Sandwich Shop, challenged participants to consume two of the shop’s signature sandwiches in the shortest time possible. According to organizers, the standing record for the competition remains an impressive 7 minutes and 6 seconds.

Assemblymember Novakhov provided a $500 cash prize for the first-place winner and expressed his enthusiasm for supporting the event. He described Jimmy’s Sandwich Shop as a true Sheepshead Bay institution and an important part of the local community. He noted that the annual contest not only offers entertainment for residents and visitors but also helps promote neighborhood businesses and strengthens community spirit.

“I am proud to support this event and look forward to seeing who takes home the championship this year,” Novakhov said.

The contest drew additional attention because Jimmy’s Sandwich Shop recently received national recognition after being featured in a comedic segment by television personalities Jimmy Kimmel and Jimmy Fallon, highlighting the shop’s unique place in the community.

The competition began at 3:00 p.m. on Emmons Avenue as part of the larger Sheepshead Bay Fest celebration. Participation was limited to ten contestants, who were selected through an application process organized by event officials.

Sheepshead Bay Fest attracted thousands of residents and visitors for an afternoon filled with food, entertainment, community activities, and local pride. The festival showcased the vibrant spirit of the neighborhood while providing valuable exposure for local businesses and organizations.
