NEW YORK CITY CIVIC ENGAGEMENT COMMISSION TO HOST PANEL ON LANGUAGE ACCESS AND VOTER PROTECTIONS
NEW YORK: ( Manzoor Hussain ) The New York City Civic Engagement Commission is set to host a major convening titled “Building Civic Power Across Languages”, focusing on language access, voter protections, and civic engagement among New York City’s diverse immigrant and language communities.
The event will feature an opening panel discussion titled “Civic Power Through Language Access and Voter Protections”, bringing together policymakers, community organizations, and civic leaders to discuss strategies for strengthening democratic participation across multilingual communities.
Media representatives have been invited to attend the opening panel session and may also participate in a lunch and networking segment, which will provide opportunities for interviews with Commission leadership, including Chair and Executive Director Dr. Sarah Sayeed and Director of Voter Language Services Anila Cobo.
The panel will include representatives from several key institutions, including the Mayor’s Office of Immigrant Affairs, the New York Immigration Coalition, and the New York State Attorney General’s Office, highlighting a collaborative approach to improving civic inclusion and voter access.
The event is scheduled for Monday, May 18, 2026. The open press panel will run from 1:05 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., while lunch and networking will take place from 12:15 p.m. to 12:45 p.m.
It will be held at the David N. Dinkins Municipal Building, North Mezzanine, in Manhattan.
