NEW YORK – “As an alleged corruption scheme continues to engulf City Hall, another scandal of the Mayor’s own making is playing out in homes and neighborhoods across New York.Today, 2.5 million rent-stabilized tenants will see their monthly housing costs increase by 2.75% for 1-year leases and 5.25% for two-year leases. It is the third consecutive year that Mayor Adams’ hand-picked Rent Guidelines Board has jacked up rents on millions of New Yorkers.This is what happens when a Mayor cares more about real estate donors than renters. Working families are leaving our city in droves because of a cost-of-living crisis that Eric Adams has taken every opportunity to make worse.The next Mayor must commit to freezing the rent and focus relentlessly on reducing costs for working-class New Yorkers.”
