Meeting of Kashmiri Delegation at Congressman Blake D. Moore’s Office in Utah

Briefing on Threats to Yasin Malik’s Life and Peaceful Resolution of the Kashmir Issue

Utah (USA) — A delegation of the Jammu & Kashmir community, led by Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) leader Sardar Anwar, met with U.S. Congressman Blake D. Moore’s office. The delegation included Javed Nasir, Irfan Aziz, and Saud Ashraf. Also present in the meeting were Congressman’s representative Reuben Mendenhall, political analyst Martin Giebitz, community leader and interlocutor Te Anu Tonga, and Sikh community leader Harbjinder Singh. The delegation presented a written letter expressing deep concern over the threats to Yasin Malik’s life, appealing for Congressman Moore to raise his voice in the U.S. Congress and at international human rights forums. The letter stated that the charges against Yasin Malik are politically motivated and that the Indian government is planning to execute him under false cases. During the briefing, Sardar Anwar said that Yasin Malik is not only the most beloved leader of the Kashmiri people but also a global ambassador of peace. He recalled that in 2001, during his U.S. visit, Malik had met with American officials, think tanks, and human rights representatives to stress a peaceful resolution of the Kashmir issue. He further stated that an independent and sovereign Jammu & Kashmir could serve as a bridge of peace, friendship, and trade between India, Pakistan, and China, and could also become a “Switzerland” for international tourists and traders. On this occasion, Reuben Mendenhall assured that he would deliver the letter to Congressman Blake D. Moore and continue such meetings in the future. He also expressed his commitment to actively participate in the political and social activities of the Kashmiri community in Utah.
