*Letter to HE Ilze Brands Kehris, Assistant Secretary-General for Human Rights, United Nations Headquarters, New York*
*Subject: Urgent Intervention Required to Save the Life of Mohammad Yasin Malik*
Dear Commissioner Ilze Brands Kehris,
I am writing to bring to your attention the critical situation of Mohammad Yasin Malik, Chairman of the Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF), who is currently incarcerated in Tihar Jail, India. Mr. Malik, a prominent leader of the non-violent resistance movement in Jammu Kashmir, has been sentenced to multiple life terms without a fair trial.
Mr. Malik’s health is deteriorating rapidly due to inadequate medical facilities in Tihar Jail, despite court orders and verbal assurances. He has been on a hunger strike since November 1, protesting the lack of proper medical care. The Delhi High Court has mandated urgent medical care for Mr. Malik, citing serious health conditions.
As the Assistant Secretary-General for Human Rights, I urge you to intervene and ensure Mr. Malik receives proper medical attention. Depriving him of medical care is a serious human rights violation. Mr. Malik’s non-violent struggle for the independence of Jammu Kashmir has been recognized globally, and his peaceful resolution approach is crucial for regional and global peace.
I request an appointment to discuss this matter further.
Sincerely,
Mohammad H. Khan
President, Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) North America
