DCAS Bookends Successful 2024, Sharing the Agency’s “Greatest Volumes”

Coinciding with the release of the agency’s greatest hits, DCAS has launched a social media campaign to highlight the best releases over the past year. Though there were many great volumes to choose from, the six stories chosen represent some of the agency’s best achievements in 2024. Transformed into books, each announcement has been redesigned, complete with a unique cover and short description that provide a snippet of their stories inside. The campaign is now live on the agency’s social media accounts, including X, Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn.

“From day one, our administration has focused on creating a safer, more affordable New York City. In 2024, we continued to deliver on that vision and ‘Get Stuff Done’ for working-class New Yorkers,” said New York City Mayor Eric Adams. “Thanks to our extraordinary public servants, America’s safest big city got even safer this year, with overall crime down and thousands of illegal guns, mopeds, and ghost cars taken off city streets. We passed historic legislation to turn New York into a ‘City of Yes,’ shattered affordable housing records once again, and put billions of dollars back into New Yorkers’ pockets. We broke records for the most jobs and small businesses in city history and moved millions of trash bags off our sidewalks and into containers. But we know that there is even more we can do to continue to uplift working-class families. As we look to the future, our administration remains committed to keeping New Yorkers safe and making our city more affordable for the millions of New Yorkers who call our city home.”

Together, our team delivered transformative achievements to uplift New Yorkers,” said DCAS Executive Deputy Commissioner Beatrice Thuo. “As it is written, ‘the laborer is worthy of their reward’—and the rewards of working for DCAS extend far beyond a paycheck. We thank the dedicated DCAS staff whose hard work made these successes possible and invite all public servants and aspiring ones to take pride in these accomplishments as we look ahead to even greater achievements in the coming year.”

“After a successful 2024, it’s clear that DCAS is the new Power Broker for municipal fleets nationwide,” states Keith Kerman, NYC Chief Fleet Officer and DCAS Deputy Commissioner. “More than anything, we’ve made great strides, and had Great Expectations, towards incorporating clean renewable diesel to power all our fleet on and off-road equipment. Along with our electrification and hybrid rollouts, our days using fossil fuel will soon be Gone with the Wind.”

“Solar energy generation is a major pillar of DCAS’s mission to decarbonize city government operations,” said NYC’s Chief Decarbonization Officer and DCAS Deputy Commissioner of Energy Management Sana Barakat. “The completion of the largest portfolio of solar arrays in the city marks a major step forward to drive down our reliance on fossil fuels and power our municipal operations with renewable energy. With our dedicated DCAS Clean Energy professionals, and agency and vendor partners, we will continue to install more solar arrays across the five boroughs, to achieve our ambitious goal of installing 100 MW of solar by 2030 and 150 MW by 2035 on City-owned property. In the words of The Little Engine That Could, we think we can, we think we can…and when we reach our greener, cleaner, healthier energy future, we’ll say, we knew we could!”

This new, innovative tool will help City employees learn, grow, and better serve New Yorkers,” said Deputy Commission Katrina Porter.  “Likewise, we want to ensure Opportunity for All New Yorkers in their career journeys. With the Public Safety Exam, DCAS is committed to making entry to City service as easy and cost-effective as possible. Public safety can offer many pathways to career success and DCAS is ready to ensure that opportunities are only one exam away from those who want to help keep NYC the safest big city in America.”
