Which is why I fight for our students every single day,” said Councilmember Susan Zhuang. “I fought to keep this investment a part of this budget, and we won. (Councilmember Susan Zhuang toured the facility with Assemblymember William Colton on January 10th, 2024)Brooklyn Technical High School, which was built more than 90 years ago, is home to nearly 6,000 students and features a functionally inadequate library (with only 12 computers and 2 printers) and essentially no student collaboration space. With a curriculum dedicated to research and project-based teamwork, BTHS is in desperate need of a large, flexible space that can accommodate these needs. Additionally, Councilmember Zhuang secured $2 million for Science Lab Upgrades at I.S. 187. The school is one of the top-rated in NYC with a curriculum focused on Scientific Research, Arts and Humanities, and Business and Law. Graduates from I.S. 187 often go on to attend the Specialized High Schools in the city, due to the thorough academic preparation from the rigorous curriculum of I.S. 187. “Investing in the existing strengths of our schools allows our children to receive excellent quality education in a public school system, which is a remarkable strength of our city I will never overlook,” said Councilmember Susan Zhuang.
