Assemblyman Colton Celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month with Marlboro Residents

Bienvenidos a la fiesta! Assemblyman William Colton (D—Gravesend, Bensonhurst, Bath Beach and Dyker Heights) joined residents of Marlboro Houses for their annual celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month on Wednesday, October 14.

In true multicultural fashion, the event – which was held at the Marlboro Senior Center, 2298 West Eighth Street — was sponsored by the Jewish Community Center of Greater Coney Island, which operates the center, and included performances by a Chinese choir.

“I was delighted to join the party – a true fiesta, to be sure – as residents of Marlboro Houses marked this important occasion,” said Assemblyman Colton. “It’s really important to honor our roots, the experiences that shaped us, and the strength and resiliency of our forebears, and carry beloved traditions forward through the generations. But, living in a city as diverse as New York, it’s also crucial to welcome our neighbors, whose heritage may be vastly different from our own, to join in the festivities. The multicultural aspect of the celebration represents southern Brooklyn at its finest. Our diversity is our strength.”
