CLIFTON, N.J. — Healthcare executive and community leader Dr. Assad Mujtaba has officially announced his candidacy for the Clifton City Council in the 2026 municipal election, launching a campaign centered on experienced leadership, public service, accountability, and a commitment to improving the quality of life for Clifton residents.
A lifelong New Yorker with deep roots in both New York and New Jersey, Dr. Mujtaba brings an extensive background in healthcare, higher education, and public service. Born in New York and raised in both New York and New Jersey, Dr. Mujtaba completed his primary education in New Jersey before earning advanced degrees, including a doctoral degree from New York University. His academic achievements have been complemented by years of professional experience in medicine, healthcare administration, education, and public policy.
Currently, Dr. Mujtaba owns and operates a medical clinic in Clifton, where he provides healthcare services to local families and members of the community. His medical practice has given him firsthand insight into the everyday challenges facing residents, particularly in the areas of public health, access to healthcare, and community well-being.
Throughout his distinguished career, Dr. Mujtaba has served in several significant public and professional roles. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he was a member of the Governor’s COVID-19 Response Team, contributing to statewide efforts to protect public health during one of the most challenging periods in recent history. Earlier in his career, he also served as a member of the Emergency Room team at Montefiore Hospital, gaining extensive frontline medical experience.
His leadership extends beyond healthcare. Dr. Mujtaba previously served as Director of Education at Hunter in New York and was also a member of the Middle States Commission responsible for higher education accreditation, reflecting his longstanding commitment to academic excellence and institutional quality.
Supporters of his campaign point to his strong electoral performance in the 2024 Passaic County Commissioner election, where he received approximately 86,000 votes in a highly competitive countywide race. Although he narrowly missed election by roughly 2,000 votes, the campaign demonstrated broad community support and particularly strong backing among Election Day voters, positioning him as a recognized and competitive candidate for future public office.
