Councilwoman Inna Vernikov and Congresswoman Elise Stefanik Hold Media Availability After Explosive House Hearing on Antisemitism at CUNY

Report : Manzoor Hussain.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Following today’s congressional hearing before the House Committee on Education and the Workforce, during which CUNY Chancellor Felix Matos Rodriguez faced scrutiny for his continued failure to address rampant antisemitism on his campuses, New York City Councilwoman Inna Vernikov and Congresswoman Elise Stefanik held a joint media availability to condemn his inaction and call for accountability at the highest levels.

Just hours before the hearing, Councilwoman Vernikov filed a formal FOIL (Freedom of Information Law) request for all communications between the CUNY Chancellor, Governor Kathy Hochul, and OCR officials. The request seeks to expose any attempts to obscure the truth about the hostile climate Jewish students are enduring across the CUNY system and review any compliance or non-compliance with the OCR settlement agreement.

Councilwoman Vernikov also sent a letter to Governor Hochul and the CUNY Board of Trustees demanding the immediate resignation of Chancellor Matos Rodriguez. Congresswoman Elise Stefanik, who has been a leading voice against campus antisemitism and has taken a leading role in holding academic institutions accountable for antisemitism, underscored that Governor Hochul has the ability to replace the Chancellor via her CUNY Board of Trustees appointees.

Both officials called for real consequences and structural change within CUNY leadership and reaffirmed their commitment to protecting Jewish students across New York City and the nation.
