Islamabad announces free public transport for one month on PM’s orders

ISLAMABAD : In a move aimed at easing the burden of rising inflation, the federal government has decided to offer free public transport services across Islamabad for a period of one month.

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi shared the development on the social media platform X, stating that the initiative will begin from tomorrow and remain in effect for 30 days. During this period, residents of the capital will be able to travel on government-operated buses without paying any fare.

He added that the Ministry of Interior will allocate approximately Rs350 million to cover the costs of this relief measure.

According to the minister, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif issued directives to provide immediate assistance to citizens facing financial pressure due to increasing prices. Following these instructions, local administration and transport authorities have been directed to ensure the timely rollout of the free service.

The announcement has received a positive response from the public, with many viewing it as a timely step to support commuters during challenging economic conditions.
